As some of you know, the FGC turns 40 next year.
Surviving flood, pestilence and much more.
Four decades of fun, frivolity, unique characters, dice rolling, and dobber pushing have gone by.
Four hundred and eighty months (give or take a few) of providing a sane, friendly, welcoming game-playing space, a refuge from the increasing stress of modern living.
Where did the time go?
It’s not something we can let happen without a celebration of some kind, so we are planning a Sunday Event at the old Finchleians at some point around September 2026 (negotiations are underway as to the exact date).
I know that seems distant, but believe me, it will arrive fast.
So, creative, thoughtful and intelligent FGC members, what should we do on that day?
Ideas please.
LOTS of ideas!
For instance.
Who do we tell it’s happening and how? The local press, definitely. ALL the games (and related) shops in London? Do we track down old members? Shall we do events or just make it a free form gaming day, like we have now, but with better advertising and a big banner? Perhaps a hybrid approach.
Do we do promotional mugs and t-shirts and other game related items?
Do we (and this is controversial) abandon the whole thing and let 40 magnificent years pass without remark?
You know how to comment. Do so.
